How it works

A live encoder posts a live stream to Origin, which ingests it, creating a live archive on disk from which to stream. Based on incoming requests from viewers, Origin dynamically packages the live stream into the requested format.

To scale this setup for delivery to millions of viewers, a CDN sits in front of Origin, caching Origin’s output and handling almost all of the requests.

Viewers can also start a show from the beginning or watch programming from the last couple of days. Origin can generate these recordings from its live archive, and you can configure the length to suit the needs of your streaming service.
